Suspicious device found at Marion General Hospital
After responding to a domestic disturbance at Marion
General Hospital the Columbia Police Department and Marion County
Sheriff's Deputies find some sort of improvised explosive device.
Authorities say a call came in around 9am Thursday about a verbal
altercation at Marion General Hospital. Once on scene, law enforcement
determined that a suspicious device was on premises. Officers located
the device and removed it from the scene. ATF, MBI, and the Mississippi
Highway Patrol joined investigators to make sure the scene was clear,
run a bomb sniffing K-9 unit, and collect evidence.
Columbia Police Chief Clint Mcmurry says, "The investigation ensued
along with us, the Marion County Sheriff's Office, and the Marion
General Hospital Security Staff. We did locate a suspicious device. That
device has since been removed and we do have a suspect in custody."
The investigation is still on going as local law enforcement works with
state and federal agencies. The suspect's name is expected to be release
Friday morning along with a list of charges.
