Supervisor Stokes says Madison deputies are improperly pulling drivers over

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hinds County Supervisor Kenneth Stokes says people are being improperly pulled over by Madison County Deputies.

Stokes says he has received complaints and witnessed a Madison County Deputy on a traffic stop well into Hinds County.

Most of the stops occurred on I-220, according to Stokes. He's sending a letter to the Madison County Board of Supervisors, requesting deputies remain in their jurisdiction.

Stokes believes it could even be a money issue.

"They should know that they can't come into Hinds County unless they are in some kind of hot pursuit and just to stop somebody on a traffic issue is not considered hot pursuit," said Stokes.

A spokesperson for the Madison County Sheriff's Department says deputies only enter Hinds County when they are asked to do so by the Hinds County Sheriff's Department.

He also says Madison County Deputies will continue to patrol all roads in the county, including I-220.
