11-year-old will not face charges in death of 2-year-old girl

SARDIS, MS -

(WMC-TV) - Investigators ruled the death of 2-year-old A-Niyah Farmer as an accident. An 11-year-old was being questioned after running over the toddler with a car at the end of May.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Mississippi Highway Patrol said the two children were sitting in the car listening to the radio. The gear shifted and A-Niyah somehow fell out under the tire.

The little girl's mother, Tamesha Thomas, said she was not feeling well the day of the accident, so she went to lie down.

"I wish she was with me right today," she said. A'Niyah somehow had opened the door and was falling out of the vehicle and the 11-year-old was trying to catch the baby and trying to stop the vehicle at the same time and was unable to catch her."

Sardis Police Chief John Deal says no charges will be filed against the 11-year-old because it was an accident. But the investigation is not over. An adult could end up being charged but Deal would not say who that adult might be.

A'Niyah's mother is hoping that other parents will keep a close eye on their little ones this summer to avoid seeing another tragic accident like her own.

"It's taught me a whole lot in life. I mean, my child gone, she not coming back and that just hurts me," she said.
