Lawsuit challenges Richland's pit bull ban

Doesn't feel like a typical Mississippi July afternoon, but no one seems to be complaining. I'm Howard Ballou with a look at some of the news stories you will see on WLBT.

A pet owner has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the city of Richland's ban on pit bull dogs.

Also, Jackson Police have identified the victim in Monday night's drive-by shooting and continue searching for the suspect they believe fired the fatal shots.

Plus, the Mississippi State Department of health has reported the first West Nile virus death of 2013, along with two new human cases. The death was in Montgomery County and the new cases are in Forest and Wayne counties.

And, tuition and fees will rise at Mississippi's public universities this fall.

In sports, a longtime, winning Jackson area high school basketball coach may not be returning.
