Miss Mississippi 2013 - The Week's Preliminary Winners

VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The new Miss Mississippi will be crowned Saturday night at the Vicksburg Convention Center. For the last three nights the 35 contestants have competed in preliminaries for talent, swimwear, evening wear and on stage question.

Friday night was a night of veterans in the pageant in the talent preliminary -- Caroline Conerly, Miss University, who made the Top 10 in 2012, Jessica Terrill, Miss Southern Heartland, who was second runner up, Jasmine Murray, Miss Mississippi State University, who was first runner up and Friday night's winner, Chelsea Rick, Miss Amory Railroad Festival, who was fourth runner up a year ago.

This is her fifth year to compete for the Miss Mississippi title. Rick is the only contestant with double preliminary wins. She won in swimwear Thursday night.

"This is really the last plausible time for me to compete. Next year I'll have to take my boards for medical school and so this is the time for me. It's the perfect timing in my life if its God's will," Rick said.

In swimwear Friday night Shelby Corn, Miss Historic South, who was first runner up two years ago, and Chassidy Sumler, Miss Northridge who was 3rd runner up in 2012. The winner was Laura Lee Lewis, Miss West Central Mississippi who also held the title of Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen in 2009.

"You know I learned at a young age from my grandmother to be healthy and just walk, just be healthy, just eat healthy. Have your mind healthy and that's just something that I've kept with me forever," said Lewis.

Thursday night in talent, Hannah Roberts, Miss University of Southern Mississippi, was the winner. Wednesday night, a repeat win in swimwear for Breanne Ponder, Miss Heartland. And in talent, Miss Leaf River Valley, Jordin Johnson.

Right after the opening number and introductions, the audience will find out who has made the top 10 and earned a chance to become Miss Mississippi 2013.
