Miss Mississippi 2013- A Dream Come True

Last week Chelsea Rick was waving to the crowd at the annual parade of contestants as Miss Amory Railroad Festival. She is now the reigning Miss Mississippi and preparing to represent this state at the Miss America Pageant.

Chelsea Rick has accomplished a childhood dream by becoming Miss Mississippi 2013.

"It's been a lifelong pursuit of being ambitious, being scholarly, being ..trying to find ways to put my compassion into action and it really all stemmed from my mother. She instilled such strong values within me", said Rick.

The Miss Mississippi scholarship program is helping her to achieve another dream of becoming a physician specializing is osteopathic medicine. She says she has earned about 30 thousand dollars in scholarships.

"I wouldn't have been able to finish that senior year at Millsaps had it not been for my Miss Mississippi money. I cannot tell you what that means to me, that this program has allowed me to reach my educational goals. That is unbelievable those things that the Miss Mississippi organization does as a non-profit organization makes a sustainable difference in the lives of young women", Rick said.

Rick will compete for the Miss America title September 15th. The pageant was previously held in January in Las Vegas. It is moving back to the original site, Atlantic City,  New Jersey. Miss Mississippi has not won the national title since 1986.

Mississippi leads the nation in scholarship money awarded to contestants. The Miss America organization is the largest provider of scholarships for young women in the United States.
