(WMC-TV) - Three former Desoto officers who were fired for doing the right thing are now being awarded $721,000.
A new decision by a New Orleans court upheld a judgment against Desoto County for wrongfully firing three correctional officers. Officers Tammy Williams, Earl Russell, and Cheryl Hambrick were fired upon reporting seeing another officer beat an inmate in jail.
According to evidence, it was an unwritten rule in the Desoto jail that "what happens in the jail, stays in the jail".
The three officers were fired back in December 2004.
