JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An incident on Interstate 20 eastbound at the State Street exit towards Clinton delayed traffic Thursday morning.

According to an alert from the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the Hinds County incident occurred at 7:13 a.m. and closed the outside lane and shoulder for about one hour.

Mississippi Highway Patrol State Troopers on the scene explain a pedestrian attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of I-20, but after crossing two lanes, turned back to return to the shoulder of the road and was struck by an oncoming truck.

Sgt. Odis Easterling says the pedestrian, 29-year-old Richard Stewart, of Jackson, is listed in stable condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Officials say the driver of the GMC Sierra will not face charges in the collision.

Drivers were delayed in the area as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
