2 face murder charges in Hwy. 49 drive-by shooting

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Charges have been filed in two counties against two Bentonia men in connection with the shooting death of a man on Highway 49 last weekend.

Fifty-two year-old Eddie Perkins and 34-year-old Clifton Gordon, both of Bentonia, are charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle in Hinds County and attempted aggravated assault in Yazoo County in the shooting death of Lamar Robinson of Jackson.

Robinson, 24, was shot and killed Saturday, July 20 about 1:30 a.m. as he traveled south on U.S. 49 in Hinds County, near the Madison County line.

"This case is an example of a strong, cooperative effort between our agency and other departments to resolve this murder," Public Safety Commissioner Albert Santa Cruz said.

The Hinds and Yazoo County Sheriff's Departments are continuing the investigation and more charges may be filed.
