HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Six months after a pick up truck hit and killed Charles Lovorn on the southbound frontage road of I-55, near Wynndale Road, the trail has gone cold. Clues are few and Mississippi Highway Patrol investigators could use the public's help to solve this case.
A yellow marker with night lights marks the area where the father of 4 died. Charles Lovorn's truck had broken down on the frontage road Saturday night January 19th.
"He was walking off to the side of the road to go get help and someone hit him and they left him there," said cousin Jessica Moore. "They didn't stop to check on him. They didn't care to see if he was alive or if he was dead or nothing. They just left him on the side of the road."
The impact was so violent his boots were knocked off. Lovorn was left to die in the grass. The driver apparently never looked back.
"It's hard because when you got 4 kids and the only thing they can do is come out here and see marks on the side of the road that says his hat was here and blood spots here," said Moore. "it's something you'll never forget and that's gonna be those babies lives the rest of their lives."
His family has a hard time coping with the unsolved tragedy. MHP says their investigation is ongoing, but they need more information in order to make an arrest. The family is appealing to the public for help in solving the deadly crime.
"It would give us closure to know what really happened and yes it will give us closure that they need to answer for what they did," added Moore. "You can't just hit someone and leave them on the side of the road like an animal. That's just not right."
Highway patrol investigators found clues in the grass near Lovorn's body; Pieces of a Dodge Ram truck, and broken grill that came off when the vehicle knocked Lovorn several feet away. Still, it's become a cold case and investigators are hoping for any new leads to close the books on this deadly hit and run in Hinds county.
