Culprit in Cyclospora outbreak identified

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Iowa and Nebraska health officials say a prepackaged salad mix is the source of a cyclospora outbreak that sickened more than 178 people in both states.

The CDC says 372 cases of the cyclospora infection have been reported in 15 states. Not all states have linked the illness to the salad mix.

The prepackaged salad included iceberg and romaine lettuce, purple cabbage and carrots. Investigators say it was distributed through a commercial chain, but they have not yet identified the exact brand.

The source of the fecal contamination is also still unknown.
