Driver killed in morning truck fire IDed

It's a hot and muggy Friday afternoon in the Jackson metro area, but the good news is that it is Friday.

The driver of an 18-wheeler that ran off I-55 early this morning and caught fire, has been identified as 43-year-old Robert H. Garland of Missouri.

Plus, Hinds County Deputy Coroner Stephanie Meachum has identified the pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a suspected drunk driver Wednesday night as Jessie Lee Thomas, 71, of Hinds County.

And, U.S. employers added 162,000 jobs in July, a modest increase and the fewest since March. At the same time, the unemployment rate fell from 7.6% to a 4½-year low of 7.4%.
