RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Florence High School student is in fair condition after suffering a heat related incident during football practice.

Richard Morrison, Assistant Superintendent for Rankin County Schools, confirmed the incident, which happened Tuesday.

Morrison said, "One of our students, Tilden Courtney, suffered from a heat related incident during football practice. The school district considers his illness an accident brought on by the extreme heat."

Morrison says the school district's thoughts and prayers are with Tilden and his family. They hope for a speedy recovery.

Morrison says football coaches are following the MHSAA (Mississippi High School Activities Association) rules and guidelines.

Trainers and coaches are checking on athletes more often and making sure they get water.

Morrison added they don't want any child to have a problem while playing sports.
