Both sides rest in Carter murder trial

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Both sides have rested in the Dwaliue Deon Carter double murder trial in Hinds County.

Carter was charged with six different counts ranging from capital murder to endangerment of a child. Wednesday count six, which was a felon in possession of a firearm, was dropped, although Carter is a convicted felon.

The state had several witnesses Wednesday including Eric Zitterholm. He was the criminal investigator at the time of the murder. During his testimony video was shown of one of Deon Carter's interrogations. Deon appeared to be crying and told Zitterholm his seven-month-old nephew was left crying in the house after the murders.

Also taking the stand was victim Reneitra Mark's twin sister. She told jurors Robert Carter worked offshore overseas and when he was gone to work Reneitra would come stay with her in McComb because she did not feel safe because of past history with Carter's family.

She told jurors the last time she saw her sister and her best friend was the morning of the murder when she was planning on coming back to Jackson to stay with her sister, and suddenly changed her mind.
