JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A movie about the life of singer James Brown will be filmed in Mississippi. Governor Phil Bryant made the announcement Monday morning.

The movie will be shot in Natchez and Jackson, and the Mississippi Coliseum will also be used for filming.

Tate Taylor, director and screenwriter of "The Help", will be directing the film for Universal. Taylor, a Mississippi native, grew up in Jackson and now has a home near Natchez.

Taylor hopes the state can reach a point where there is a permanent film base and crew in the state. But he sees the filmmaking as a growing opportunity for the state.

"I really firmly believe that pretty soon with all of our hard work we could easily see film revenues approaching $100 million within our state. If we continue to keep going and attracting these businesses. We'll make it undeniable to come. That's my goal," said Taylor.

Mississippi currently gives incentives to film productions willing to locate in the state. While he saw great success with "The Help," Taylor says the studios are still owned by corporations that want to get the most bang for their buck.

"Once again, it comes down to the bottom line and I had to show them that. We had to work hard to make the budget work. That will never go away. As in any business, what is most cost effective is where movies will be filmed. We proved it to be the case on this one. We've got to do it again, again and again," said Taylor.

Filming will take place this fall over a 60-day period, with an additional 10-14 weeks of pre- and post production. The producers have committed to working with the state's WIN Job Centers to hire extras and qualified crew members.

Brian Grazer and rocker Mick Jagger will join Taylor as producers. Taylor says it has yet to be determined who will take on the role of James Brown. But said he could know as early as next week.
