Blood test developed for ovarian cancer

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A blood screening test for ovarian cancer could catch the disease in the earliest stage. Ovarian cancer is often deadly because it is has few, if any, symptoms and there is no screening test.

Researchers at M-D Anderson Cancer Center had 4,000 post-menopausal women undergo a blood test that looks for C-A-125, a known ovarian tumor marker.

They found the test had a low false positive rate. Cancers in the seven women diagnosed as a result of the test,  were detected at an early stage.

-Study led by researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and published in the journal Cancer.
