MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A man was robbed at gunpoint in North Memphis Tuesday morning after agreeing to give a stranger a ride.

The robbery happened near the intersection of Bellevue Boulevard and Bammel Avenue just before 10:30 a.m.

Action News 5's Nick Kenney spoke with the victim, Randy Brumlow, on the scene. He said he was at a gas station when the suspect asked him for a ride to his sister-in-law's house to pick up a car. The victim obliged.

"A guy asked me for a ride and I was doing a good deed and offered and went ahead and gave him a ride," he explained.

After driving several miles, Brumlow says the man then pulled out a gun, demanded money, and started punching him.

When Brumlow tried to get out of the car...

"He grabbed the back of my pants and got me on the ground and continued beating me," he said. "Took my wallet, took my keys, and put my car in gear and ran my car down in a ditch."

Brumlow was given a black eye, bloody ear, and broken fingers during the assault.

"I'm really upset. And I know next time never to pick nobody up. Never pick up a stranger again. I'll never offer to help nobody," he said.

Brumlow says the man told him his name was Antoine. He was wearing jean shorts, a blue t-shirt, and had dreadlocks.

If you have any information about the suspect, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
