Day of Dignity - - Jackson, MS

Day of Dignity

A much smaller observance of the historic 1963 March on Washington is scheduled to take place in Jackson Wednesday evening. It's called the "Day of Dignity," and will begin at 5:30 P.M. on the south steps of the State Capitol.

During the "Day of Dignity," organizers and participants will pay homage to the participants of the original March on Washington. A coalition of organizations also will deliver messages that define, demand and determine what dignity looks like in Mississippi.

ACLU Executive Director, Jennifer Riley-Collins said the coalitions are "demanding certain dignities which include quality and equitable access to healthcare, affordable childcare, education, jobs and housing in order for us to decide what actions will be necessary to embrace and achieve those dignitaries in the future."

The "Day of Dignity" is cosponsored by a number of organizations, including the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center and One Voice.
