GOSNELL, AR -

(WMC-TV) - The 17-year-old charged in the death of 11-year-old Jessica Williams reportedly confessed to becoming angry at her before strangling her and pushing her off of a bridge.

Christopher Sowell, 17, of Gosnell, Arkansas, is charged with first degree murder. His bond was set at $2 million in court Thursday.

Williams went missing Tuesday night around 6 p.m. Her body was found Wednesday morning just miles from her home.

As they conducted interviews, investigators say they were pointed in the direction of Sowell, who then told them everything.

According to the affidavit of complaint, Sowell said that he became angry at Jessica and pushed her. When she said she was going to tell her father, Sowell said he became even more angry. He said he grabbed her by the throat and choked her until she became "wide eyed". He then pushed her over the side of the bridge into the water below.

Her bicycle was found first, in a roadside ditch. Her body was then discovered at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"I did everything I could for her. And I knew when her bicycle I got for her for birthday was on the side of the road, that something was wrong," said Jessica's grandmother, Rebecca Burchard.

Jessica's family was at the courthouse Thursday as Sowell was officially charged with the crime.

"It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do," added Burchard.

Family friend Joyce Green remembered the last time she saw the little girl.

"Last time we seen her, she was laughing and having a good time," said Green. "She was outgoing and real happy. She loved life."

Prosecutors say Sowell will be charged as an adult.

"Please, please, keep your eye on your kids and don't take your eyes off of them for a second," pleaded Burchard. "Please, the world's not safe, please. Don't trust nobody."
