GOSNELL, AR -

(WMC-TV) - The father of Jessica Williams is grateful to everybody who helped search for the 11-year-old while she was missing. Everybody, that is, except for the teenager charged with killing her.

Eric Williams' little girl was found dead just miles from her home Wednesday morning. A 17-year-old neighbor reportedly confessed to killing her, telling investigators how it happened.

Williams feels better with closure, but when investigators told him who they arrested for the crime, he could not believe it.

"Completely blindsided me," he said.

Christopher Sowell lived a few hundred yards from the Williams' home, on Country Road 503 North.

When Jessica went missing Tuesday, her father says Christopher helped to search for her.

"He was right out here, right beside me in the field looking for her, right next me out there looking for her," said Williams. "'Maybe she's out here,' is what he said to me. And we're going back there looking, knowing the whole time, standing right beside me, he knew where she was."

Investigators say Sowell admitted that he got angry and threw Jessica off of a bridge a few miles from her home. When she threatened to tell her father, Sowell said he got angrier and scared so he choked her until she got "wide eyed" and then threw her off of the bridge again.

Eric Williams says one reason the family chose to live so deep in the country was to be safe. The other reason was for Jessica.

"She's a tomboy. She loved the country. She was just a little tomboy," he said. "She loved to go to church. Loved life. She was a good girl."

Sowell's family did not want to speak to Action News 5 about the arrest. A public defender was assigned to Christopher and he is due back in court September 26.
