Playing a video game could help older adults improve their brain function! A researcher at U-C San Francisco has developed a 3-D video game for seniors that boosts their cognitive control, working memory and attention skills.

The game, called Neuro-Racer, requires players to race around a track and push a button when a specific sign appears on the screen. The difficulty of the game increases as the player improves.

After 12 hours of training, the 60 to 85 year olds in the study performed better than 20 year olds playing for the first time. More research is needed to determine the specific brain changes that occur in older adults when they are forced to multi-task and maintain focus.

This study was led by researchers at UC San Francisco and published in 'Nature.'
