(WMC-TV) - Police collected bullets from the sidewalk the morning after a shooting at the Whitehaven View Apartments.

Curtis Brown says Tuesday's tragedy will stay with him the rest of his life. Brown found his nephew, Tony Cathey, bleeding profusely in a neighbor's kitchen.

He tried CPR, but Cathey died in his arms.

"He raised up, the last thing he said was 'Uncle.' That was it," said Brown.

Investigators say 18-year-old Special McKinley forced Cathey at knife point into her apartment, which is where he was shot and killed.

Both McKinley and the man she lives with, Ronnie White, then jumped out of this second floor back window and ran away. Police caught them one street over.

"They gonna get what they deserve. Trust me. 201 isn't gonna play with them. Downtown is not gonna play with them," said Cathey's girlfriend, Carlita Warr.

She says the couple had discussed getting married.

"I really loved Tony. That was my heart. It's just, he's gone just like that, in the blink of an eye," she said.

White and McKinley are charged with first degree murder and held without bond. They are due in court Thursday morning.
