(WMC-TV) - Beale Street is in the running to be named one of the most iconic streets in America.
Beale Street is among 20 other famous streets vying for the title, some of which include Fifth Avenue in New York City, NY; Bourbon Street in New Orleans, LA; Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, CA; and Music Row in Nashville, TN.
In the contest description, USA Today and 10Best pose the question, "Where would the stars be without Beale Street, Broadway, Music Row, or Sunset Boulevard?"
Legends like W.C. Handy and B.B. King got their starts on Beale Street, in fact, before he was B.B. King, he was nicknamed "Beale Street Blues Boy", which was later shortened to "Blues Boy", before it was finally condensed to B.B. King.
Elvis Presley even bought his threads at Lanskys, which first opened at 126 Beale Street.
You can vote for Beale Street, or any of the others streets in the running, until October 7 at noon. Winners will be revealed October 9.
Memphis is on a roll being recognized by USA Today's readers. Just a few weeks ago, AutoZone Park was ranked number 10 in the list of best minor league ballparks in America.
The article praised the park as being "as modern as they come" and it even said AutoZone Park has a major league feel to it.
