Run-off in at least one Hinds County Supervisor's race - - Jackson, MS

Democratic run-offs for 2 Hinds Co. Supervisors races

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Democratic runoffs will be held in both District 2 and District 4 to decide which candidates will advance to the November general election.

In Hinds County Supervisor District 2, Darrell McQuirter will face Willie Robinson in the runoff. McQuirter won the primary race, but didn't get more than 50% of the vote.

Darrell McQuirter:      1697    31.78%

Willie Robinson:       1038    19.44%

David L. Archie          653     12.23%

Archie didn't make the runoff, but has filed for a temporary injunction, and wants the District 2 results thrown out. Archie says in his filing that there were irregularities in the election and some of the process was too complex for voters to understand.

In District 4, Jerry Hopkins got the most votes, but has withdrawn from the race. James Baker and Michael Maldonado will face each other in the Democratic runoff.

Jerry Hopkins:          353   41.82%

James Baker:           316   37.44%

Michael Maldonado   160   18.96%

In the District 4 Republican Primary, Tony Greer defeated Alvin Woods and advances to the November 5 general election..

Tony Greer:     1579   63.46

Alvin Woods:     903   36.29

Write-ins                      .25

The runoffs will be held October 8.

A candidates forum will be held Thursday, October 3 at the Metrocenter Mall Center Court. The candidates will answer questions from a panel and the public. The event is free and open to all.
