Construction on The District at Eastover is ramping up as demolition begins on buildings at the old Mississippi School for the Blind.
The 585,000 square foot retail/office/ living development is set to be completed in 2015, with construction beginning in the spring. The District will also feature Jackson's only movie theater.
The project will cost $100,000,000.00 to develop.
Developer Ted Duckworth says, "Its all coming together, as the master plan, it's about a half million square feet of combined office hotel retail and residential lofts."
Duckworth says the districts biggest buzz has come from it's multi-screen movie theater, which will be the only one in Jackson.
With daily traffic numbers of 130,000 vehicles passing by it on I-55, there's no chance the district will be overlooked.
Duckworth says, "The destination were creating is the anchor so Jackson will have a place in the heart of the city where people can come eat stop live, work and just a real hub."
Retailers and the company which will put a hotel on the site will be announced later this year.
