JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

If you ride by the fair grounds here in downtown Jackson there are new tents added each day. All of the preparations is for this year's state fair.

Sunday afternoon the midway and concession area were a buzz with activity. Many of the businesses are making last minute preparations as they prepare for the hundreds of thousands that will come through the gates this year.

Rides and food booths are set up. Once you've bought your ticket there will be a number of free activities inside. There will also be livestock shows. The fairgrounds will be 105 acres of fun that continues to draw people to downtown Jackson.

"Our state fair is still very viable. IN a lot of states it's kind of gone to the way side and people just aren't attending them, is what I hear throughout the country. We have almost 700,00 people that come to our state fair and that's in a population of less than three million people in the state," said Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith, Department of Agriculture and Commerce.

It's $5.00 admission except for children under six years of age. They are admitted free.

It's will also BE $5.00 to park.
