Police say the three boys either climbed over or under one of the fences, even though the tops are covered in barbed wire.
(WMC-TV) - Police arrested the youngest felony suspects in Jackson, TN over the weekend. Now three young boys face several charges for burglary, vandalism, and theft.
"I think it's a sign of the times. I mean, young kids getting away with more and more every day," said resident Bryan Cermack.
Cermack was not surprised by the mischievous acts allegedly committed by three young boys Saturday afternoon.
According to the Jackson Police Department, a 7-year-old boy along with two brothers ages 10 and 13 broke into the city garage and caused major damage.
"It was like demolition derby; they were just hitting other vehicles hitting structures. They tore a fence just like bumper cars," said Jackson Police Department Captain T. Miller.
Miller says the three boys either climbed over or under one of the fences, even though the tops are covered in barbed wire.
"We actually kind of caught them in the act," said Miller.
An officer pumping gas nearby heard the loud crashing noises and checked out the scene. Eight vehicles from the street and sanitation and storm water operations departments were damaged to the tune of more than $200,000.
"People who disregard personal property rights, they need to be disciplined and punished to the full extent of the law as far as I'm concerned," said Cermack.
Authorities places the 13-year-old boy on house arrest after a detention hearing. Police said the 10-year-old and 7-year-old were issued citations and released to their parents because the juvenile court system will not accept children under the age of 12.
