There will be plenty of funnel cakes and chicken-on-a-stick at this year's state fair, and the State Health Department is working to insure that your favorite snacks are safe.
Mississippi State Department of Health Environmentalists are conducting food inspections along the midway.Vendors must meet FDA food safety guidelines.
Tuesday inspectors continued their evaluations of booths serving food. They are look for cleanliness and the proper handling, preparation and storage of potentially hazardous and other foods.
Fifteen to 20 health department officials will conduct daily inspections. There are about 100 food vendors at the fair.
"We are being very careful this year to make sure that everybody has exactly what they need. Hot water, soap, the most important thing you can do is keep your hands clean and keep utensils clean and you keep your hot foods hot and your cold foods cold," said State Dept. of Health Environmentalist Anne Hogue.
Inspectors ask that you report any fair food safety concerns to the State Health Department at 601-957-1026.
