MAGEE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The parents of Jessica Cromwell, the 21-year-old woman stabbed to death at the Magee Wendy's, say Robert Williams had a long history of domestic violence against her. They say Jessica filed charges against him on several occasions but would always drop them.
They say the two had a big fight and split up the day before the murder.
Cromwell's Aunt Lynn Smith says, "He's been abusive in the past this is not the first time this happened it happened so many times, just like she left him the night before it happened then look at what happened. It's like she had no help to get away from this guy."
Jessica Cromwell was killed Tuesday evening. Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor confirmed she was stabbed multiple times inside the Wendy's on U.S. 49 in Magee.
Magee Police have confirmed that the man they say stabbed Cromwell to death has killed himself.
According to a press release, 31 year old Robert Williams was apprehended less than a block away running from the scene. Magee Police tasered him and recovered the murder weapon.
Magee Police Chief Randy Crawford says, "very tragic situation for everyone involved. Everybody, witnesses, the victim's family both families our hearts and prayers go out to everyone involved."
At the Magee Police Department, Williams was placed in a holding cell with only his boxer shorts and ankle socks. Shortly after, he was found hanging in his cell by his boxer shorts and ankle socks tied together.
Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor pronounced him dead at approximately 8:30 Tuesday night.
The Wendy's where the murder happened remained closed Wednesday. A sign on the door said "until further notice".
