Magee Police Chief Randy Crawford released a press release Wednesday morning with more details on the Tuesday stabbing death of a Wendy's employee.
The release reads:
On October 1, 2013, at approximately 5:19 p.m., Magee Police Department received a 911 call from Wendy's stating that they had a domestic situation in progress between an employee and her boyfriend.
As Magee PD units were responding to the call, the 911 caller stated that he is stabbing her. The employees followed the suspect out of the business and gave the PD a physical and clothing description of the suspect.
The suspect was apprehended by Magee Police less than a block away running from the scene. Magee PD officers used a taser to capture the suspect in less than two minutes from receiving the 911 call.
The murder weapon was recovered from the suspect upon arrest.
The ambulance was called for the victim where she was transported from Wendy's to Magee General Hospital and subsequently died of multiple stab wounds.
Magee Police Department is in the process of collecting video evidence as well as all other evidence from the scene.
The victim was Jessica Cromwell, 21, from Magee. The suspect was Robert James Williams Jr, her 31-year-old boyfriend.
Robert Williams was transported to the Magee Police Department. His bloody clothing was collected for evidence and he was placed in a holding cell with only his boxer shorts and ankle socks.
Shortly thereafter, Robert Williams was found hanging in his cell by his boxer shorts and ankle socks, which were tied together.
AMR was called and Robert Williams was pronounced dead by Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Both bodies were transported to the Mississippi Crime lab awaiting autopsy.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called to assist in the ongoing investigation as well as the Simpson County Sheriff Department.
No other details can be released at this time due to the pending investigation.
