Power of Pink campaign kicks off

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The "Power of Pink" campaign kicks off today, Friday, October 4.

The "Power of Pink" is a month long effort to share information about breast cancer and encourage women to take charge of their health.

To help women get on the road to health Baptist Hospital and WLBT are hosting a "Women's Health Day" at Baptist for Women. If you attend you can receive free screenings like total cholesterol, HDL and glucose.

Breast exams are not apart of "Women's Health Day," however, medical professionals will be on hand to educate you about your breast health and assist in making an appointment for a mammogram and other breast exams.

Breast cancer survivor Lynn Breithaupt told WLBT that early detection of her breast cancer through her regular mammogram saved her life.

"I got lucky and that's the main thing out there I want women to learn to get their mammogram's and do it early, if you do have anything you can catch it early enough you can end up saving your life," said Breithaupt.

Women's Health Day is open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Baptist for Women in Jackson.

The event is free, but donations are welcome and will benefit the organization "Fund for the Girls."
