Hinds Supervisor gets complaints about inmates' food preparation

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Hinds County supervisor has concerns about the food given to inmates at the Hinds County Detention Center.

Supervisor Kenneth Stokes is questioning what he calls inhumane treatment.

Stokes says he's received complaints about meals not being properly prepared, small portions being served, and a lack of nutritional options.

Stokes says similar concerns have also come from the youth detention center.

He said  ABL Management, a correctional food service company, cooks the meals at both holding facilities.

He believes if inmates are hungry, it will lead to more violence at the jail.

"If you have inmates not being fed properly, that can lead to fights. It could lead to problems at the jail that the board of supervisors probably will have to pay for," Stokes said.

Stokes plans to bring up the issue at the board's meeting on Monday.

No one was available for comment on Sunday at ABL Management.
