West Nile weekly report released

Hinds County is the only county reporting a new case of West Nile Virus (WNV) this week. According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, that brings the state's total cases to 40 for 2013. Two of those cases resulted in death. 

So far this year, Hinds County has the highest number of WNV cases with 12 laboratory-confirmed cases to the Mississippi State Department of Health. 

Cases have been reported in Adams, Bolivar, Forrest (5), Harrison, Hinds (12), Jones (2), Lamar (4), Leflore (2), Lincoln, Lowndes, Madison (3), Marion, Pike, Rankin (4) and Wayne counties, according to a release from In 2012, Mississippi had 247 WNV cases and five deaths.
