Man wanted in head start shooting in custody

PHILADELPHIA, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The man wanted in connection with a shooting near a head start center in Philadelphia, Mississippi is now in custody. Thirty-one year old Wilshaun McAfee was arrested Tuesday afternoon around 2:45 near his home on Martin Luther King Drive, after officers received a tip.

McAfee is charged with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling. He is accused of getting into an argument across the street from the head start center Monday. Shots were fired and one of the bullets hit the building.

The facility was placed on lock down and the children were evacuated. None of the children or staff members were injured. The center will be open Tuesday. Charlene Priester the attorney for the Head Start Center says police will have extra patrols in the area.
