JRA on the chopping block

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Several members of the Jackson City Council discussed whether to abolish the Jackson Redevelopment Authority at Tuesday night's meeting

Larita Cooper-Stokes of Ward 3, and Ward 1 Councilman, Quentin Whitwell say members of Jackson Redevelopment Authority continue to miss opportunities to move the city forward and to provide more economic development.

"I mean its ridiculous what we are living with in the City of Jackson," said Councilman Stokes. "The last major retail establishment in the City of Jackson was the Metro Center."

"They continue to embarrass us publicly, embarrass our city publicly by their actions, their foolishness, their selfishness, the way that they operate, and the way that they just stir things up, instead of getting things done," added Whitwell. "We need to get some things done."

There was no vote to dismantle JRA Tuesday night, it will now go to the Planning Committee for further discussion.
