KOSCIUSKO, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A teenager is dead after a car ran from police at a checkpoint and led officers on a high speed pursuit through Kosciusko. The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 12 Saturday afternoon. 

The driver, 33-year-old Chassie Holifield  and two passengers, a 16-year-old Erica Holifield, and a 10-year-old, were ejected from a red Camaro. There was also an infant in the backseat buckled in a child restraint system. The child was not injured and remained in the vehicle.

Two people were airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Erica Holifield died at the scene. The boy broke his femur and Chassie Holifield underwent surgery on Saturday.

The driver of the other vehicle, 30-year-old Nickholas Jackson of Sallis, was taken to a local hospital in handcuffs with non-life threatening injuries. 

Kosciusko Police were in pursuit of Jackson when the crash occurred.

KosyOnline reports multiple charges are pending against Jackson. He is in the Attala County Jail.

No one was available for comment at the Kosciusko Police Department.
