American Cancer Society wants cancer legislation passed

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

More than 5,000 walked through downtown Jackson to help find a cure for breast cancer, but The American Cancer Society is pushing another initiative to help patients.

Participants were encouraged to sign this poster. On it you saw the words chemotherapy and mother.

The American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network wants lawmakers to become involved in how breast cancer patients are seen at the doctor's office.

"We are asking congress to sign on and pass legislation for palative care. Where we bring all of the doctors involved together when you're going through cancer having everyone on the same page and working together for the good of the patient," said Anita Bales, with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.

ACS is taking the grassroots effort to events across the country.
