The man wanted for murder, and the target of a manhunt earlier this month was in court Monday. Michael Wright made his initial appearance before Judge Houston Patton in Hinds County Court.
Wright told the judge he was innocent and was denied bond.
Wright is accused of shooting and killing 55 year old Jerry Brent of Utica, and kidnapping his wife Sharice Latham. Latham escaped, and was hospitalized with injuries.
Wright was captured in Pike county last Friday. He had been living and working at the St. Andrews mission.
Wright had been on the run for nearly three weeks. He was already out on bond awaiting trial on murder charges of a woman in Panola county. No motive has been released in the shooting death of Brent.
