HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - University of Southern Mississippi police are investigating a report of a rape that allegedly occurred at the Kappa Sigma fraternity house earlier this month.
Police Chief Bob Hopkins tells The Hattiesburg American the ongoing investigation has not yet led to a criminal charge, but that charges may be coming soon.
The alleged incident occurred during the early morning hours of Oct. 13, according to incident reports, but Hopkins said it was not reported until a couple days later by a female Southern Miss student.
Hopkins says the investigation is taking some time due to difficulties rounding up witnesses to events leading up to and following the alleged assault.
