Man who allegedly points gun at cops, killed following chase

MERIDIAN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

 Meridian police fatally shoot a man who they said opened fire following a chase early Friday.

According to investigators the driver, 44-year-old Thomas Ardd, led police on a high speed chase just before 4 a.m. Officials said the pursuit started in Meridian and ended in Clarke county.

Police said the Meridian man refused to stop, lost control and eventually hit a police vehicle head on before exiting his vehicle. Ardd reportedly pointed a gun at officers and refused to drop it. The two unnamed policemen opened fire.

 Ardd was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mississippi Highway Patrol and Clarke County Sheriff's Department are assisting in the investigation.The officers are on paid administrative leave until the completion of the investigation.
