JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Seventeen-year-old Shaun Brown of Jackson remains behind bars after going before a judge Monday morning for a preliminary hearing on a capital murder charge.

Jackson Police arrested Brown for the deadly shooting of a pro-fisherman at a Jackson Hotel last month. James "Jimmy" Johnson was in town for a tournament at the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

"It appears to be some what a random act," said David Baria, the attorney for the Johnson family. "My understanding is that these folks were attempting a robbery or burglary of some sort. And Mr. Jimmy Johnson, they had the expectation that they were staying in a safe place, get a good night sleep and compete in a tournament. He was having a great year and expected to do well."

This case will now go to a grand jury.
