RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Children and employees got quite a jolt at a church in Rankin County Wednesday morning.

"This morning at about 10am, our preschool director heard a loud boom. She came outside. This man had driven up on the sidewalk," said Weston Blaha, Youth Director at Lakeside Presbyterian Church on Spillway Road. "(He) ran into the guard rails that keep children safe from the preschool area."

All of the children were inside the school at the time. But Jomie Cain, 56, of Madison was taken into custody after Reservoir Police say he ran his Ford SUV off Spillway Road, through the parking lot, and into the gate outside the church's education building. It's very close to the playground.

"All the children are safe, they're all fine," Blaha tells us.

Police had to apply garbage bags to the squad car seat before seating Cain, as it appeared he released his bladder at some point during his wild ride.

"He did not appear to be very coherent," Blaha explains. "I believe police got a lot of conflicting stories on different things, it took a while to get the truth of him, from what I can tell."

Cain's sister, Nancy Cain, says her brother suffers seizures and does not have a driver's license. She says he was unable to speak when officers questioned him on the scene.

She says her brother was taken to Rankin County Justice Court to pay outstanding fines. She says he was then dismissed for medical reasons.
