Exercise could be brain boost for fetus

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Women who exercise during pregnancy could boost their newborn's brain development.

Researchers at the University of Montreal studied 18 pregnant women, 10 of whom exercised at a moderate pace three times a week for twenty minutes. Researchers measured their babies' brain activity when they were between eight and 12 days old, and found those born to moms who exercised had more mature brain activity, suggesting they developed faster than the other children.

Outside experts caution the study is small and that vigorous exercise is not recommended for pregnant women.
