Save the boobies

A local breast cancer survivor has started a campaign called "Save the Boobies, not the Building".

Stephanie Parker Weaver hosted the first "Save the Boobies" meeting at New Horizon Church Saturday morning.

Weaver had a very aggressive form of breast cancer and said the lives of breast cancer patients are at risk. She says that's because the man sitting next to her (in the photo), Dr. Lucio Miele was demoted from his position as Director of the UMMC Cancer Institute.

Weaver said without Dr. Miele's leadership and brilliance cells and other information that could find a cure for breast cancer aren't being studied.

"Those cells have been sitting on the floors they have been sitting in refrigerators dying, untouched, unstudied. And so how is this a commitment to finding a cure? I pray and hope that some of those cells haven't died up there for the past three months untouched, unstudied do not hold a cure for breast cancer," Weaver said.
