Hundreds of people looking to make a cameo in the new James Brown movie, Get On Up, made their way to downtown Jackson Sunday for an open casting call.
More than 3,000 extras are needed for scenes scheduled to be filmed in Jackson in January.
Filming for the movie started earlier this month in Natchez. The movie will depict James Brown‘s life from the 1930's all the way until the 90's.
Clina Cannon was one of hundreds looking to land an extra spot in the movie which, in part, will be shot right here in Jackson.
"I'm special, I'm a special child of God and I'm not shame and I think I can do it," Cannon, a Jackson resident said.
It's no doubt, she has the confidence along with others who showed up Sunday for an open casting call at the Mississippi Department of Education.
"It's good to see the process, how it happens. Kind of brings a new light to what I thought about films and movies," added Hailey Martin of Jackson.
Latoya Hood of Jackson said, "It wasn't a long line outside the building, the process was very smooth. The lady, Tammy Smith, makes you feel very comfortable and it's just very easy to go throughout the information."
"It's an ongoing process," said Extras Casting Director, Tammy Smith.
"Some of these folks will work more than once but that's the amount of spots that I need to fill so we need to populate the movie from 1940s all the way up to 1990s," Smith added.
The movie will depict Brown's life from the age of five through years before his death.
"I mean there were scenes where we see concerts where James Brown performed and they were all black audience members, then we have concert scenes with a mix crowd, we have scenes that took place in Cincinnati at the record label, so we need all walks of life," Smith continued.
Cannon said she hopes to be a part of history.
"I'm going to leave it to God," Cannon said.
If you missed Sunday's casting call, there will be another opportunity on December 7th at the Adams County Airport.
The casting director is looking for black males ages 16 to 25 for a scene where James Brown performed for the troops in Vietnam.
