RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A 65-year-old Ridgeland woman vividly remembers shaking hands with President Kennedy in Dallas, the very day he was shot to death.

Beverly Franks was 15 years old that morning 50 years ago, when she remembers her mother made her go to Love Field, where President Kennedy first landed in Dallas, on what was to be the last day of his life.

"They were like movie stars when they got off of that plane," said Franks. "We stuck out our hands and they all shook our hands, first Mrs. Kennedy, and I remember the beautiful pink suit, pink became my favorite color. And off they went, we just stood there dazed for a minute. It was wonderful, it was like the red carpet."

Franks has vivid memories of how young President Kennedy looked, along with his equally youthful looking wife.

"It was an unbelievable event to have happened, in our country," added Franks. "We all came to realize it was something we could never have imagined in our wildest dreams, would ever happen. There was an innocence after world war two but at that point in time it just disappeared. The reality of a new world began to set in."

Everybody we have talked to, who is old enough to remember, tells us this country has not been the same, since the day JFK died.
