Hinds Supervisor wants jail administrator hired immediately

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Hinds County Supervisor wants to speed up the process of hiring a jail administrator at the Hinds County Detention Center.

A grand jury report gave the county six months to fill the position. However, Supervisor Kenneth Stokes wants the person hired before the deadline.

He says without that person in place Pod C, the portion of the jail that has been renovated after a riot, can't open.

Stokes says that delays other repairs needed at the Raymond facility.

Stokes believes the trickle down effect is why suspects are being housed in different counties and there are changes in the courtroom.

"The whole criminal justice system in this county depends on this jail administrator. Lets get him on the job. Lets get him and his staff on the job and paid properly so we can get this jail situation under control," Stokes said.

Stokes said monitors have been hired to watch over the day to day operations for now. He plans to bring up the issue at the next board meeting.
