Few local delays on busy travel day

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Kansas City International Airport was a well-oiled machine Wednesday, despite the storms in the Northeast, which only trickled down to less than a dozen delays throughout the day in Kansas City.

Many travelers passed the time with books and electronic devices when delays were announced.

"When we woke up this morning we were delayed by half an hour I guess … and then in 10-minute increments, it's been increasing," said Stephanie Kuykendal, who was traveling with her family to Seattle.

But Kuykendal was one of the few unlucky ones out of KCI Wednesday. Most flights managed to stay on time, despite heavy Northeast storms.

"Usually we have about 25,000 people through the airport. It's more like 30,000 on a big day like this. The same number of flights for the most part are here, it's just more people on those flights," said airport spokesman Joe McBride.

McBride said KCI now has three precheck terminals were preapproved passengers can avoid traditional security lines.

People can sign up for precheck on tsa.gov where they will be prescreened with a background check.
