Some City of Jackson employees are wondering what happened to their paychecks
City workers who signed up for direct deposit payroll, didn't see their money in their bank accounts as scheduled Wednesday morning.
Even the mayor was impacted, but Jackson Fire Department Captain A. J. Bryant is upset because it is not the first time, this year, payroll has been delayed.
Bryant said, "My main concern is where is this going to end. From a young firefighters who is living on a budget, how would that affect them as far as overdraft, insufficient funds and paying their bills on time."
City of Jackson CAO, Synarus Green said, "Within the last year, we've had some upgrades. It's actually for the benefit of our employees. We had two upgrades on our systems. One that kind of addressed issues we've had monitoring overtime, employee clock-ins, but then the other part of our system actually does the payout needs to be upgraded to interface with our new system as well and so between the two we have had a couple of glitches over the year."
Green says the city is working to iron out the problems and he assures workers, paper checks will be issued Thursday.
Green also said the city has a good working relationship with local banks and employees who may have issues such as overdraft, as a result of the glitch, should contact their supervisors and it will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
