JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Kardarius Cross scored on a 75-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to lead Picayune past Oxford 42-35 for the Mississippi Class 5A state championship on Saturday night.

Picayune won with a spectacular rally, scoring 21 unanswered points in the final seven minutes after trailing 35-21 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Maroon Tide (12-2) clinched their second state championship in three years and third state title in school history.

Picayune's Preston Dedeaux rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns. Boderick Scott threw for 140 yards and two scores.

Kenzie Phillips had three rushing touchdowns to lead Oxford (14-1), which is still seeking its first state title in school history.
